BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — Maurice Barrow scored 18 points Saturday and Marcus Gilbert added 17 as Fairfield held off a second-half surge by Manhattan to win 71-67, ending a seven-game skid in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play.
Manhattan jumped to a 5-0 lead on a trey by Rashawn Stores, but Fairfield took control on a layup by Barrow and never trailed again. Gilbert scored 13 in the half for Fairfield (4-14, 1-7), and the Stags led 39-23 at halftime. Manhattan (13-4, 6-2) shot just 28 percent in the half.
Ashton Pankey rallied Manhattan in the second half with a layup and free throw that cut the lead to 60-52. Emmy Andujar’s 3-pointer made it a seven-point game at 1:50. Back-to-back layups by Michael Alvarado cut the lead to two with 4 seconds to play, but Barrow hit two free throws to ensure the win.
Alvarado led Manhattan with 20 and Pankey had 13.
