Coppin State edges Hampton 71-68

HAMPTON, Va. (AP) — Andre Armstrong made a pair of free throws with 14 seconds left to lift Coppin State over Hampton 71-68 on Saturday.

The game was won at the line, as Coppin State made 24 of 32 free throw attempts, while Hampton hit just 14 of 27.

Coppin State (6-11, 3-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) was led by Daquan Brickhouse with 18 points, and Taariq Cephas contributed 13 points.

Du’Vaugn Maxwell led Hampton (8-9, 3-1) with 16 points while Ramon Mercado had 12 points — hitting all four of his 3-point attempts — and Emmanuel Okoroba added 11 points.

Coppin State led by six with 4:14 left in the first half after an Armstrong trey, but Hampton scored seven of the last 10 points of the half and trailed by 2 at 37-35 at the break.

The second half saw five lead changes and two ties before Armstrong’s late free throws decided it.
