LORMAN, Miss. (AP) — Marquis Vance scored a career-high 24 points as Alcorn State opened a close game after halftime, defeating Mississippi Valley State 65-53 Saturday in a game that was moved 140 miles across the state after bomb threats at the MVSU campus.

Vance, a freshman, hit 10 of 16 field goals and Octavius Brown scored 17 — including a pair of jumpers after halftime as the Braves (6-11, 3-2 Southwestern Athletic Conference) opened a three-point halftime lead to as many as 19. MVSU shot 26 percent after halftime.

Alcorn State outscored MVSU (4-13, 0-4) 28-18 in the paint and 12-3 on points off turnovers.

Anthony McDonald, Julius Francis and DeAngelo Priar scored 10 each for the Delta Devils, who relocated their men’s and women’s games to Lorman after two bomb threats prompted the closure of MVSU’s campus over the weekend. No explosives have been found, and MVSU will host Southern on Wednesday.
