Adrian beats stacked field at Austin Grand Prix

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Olympian Nathan Adrian defeated a stacked field in the 50-meter freestyle at the Austin Grand Prix on Saturday.

He overcame a bad start to win in 21.89 seconds for his second victory of the three-day meet. Adrian was the only swimmer under 22 seconds in the sprint.

Olympian Anthony Ervin was second at 22.48, followed by Jimmy Feigen in 22.49. Also in the final were Olympians Cullen Jones and Matt Grevers.

Olympian Natalie Coughlin won the women’s 50 free in 25.17. Amanda Weir, another Olympian, was second in 25.23, just one-hundredth of a second ahead of Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace of the Bahamas.
