ABILENE, Texas (AP) — Parker Wentz made a layup at the buzzer as Abilene Christian overcame a 10-point second-half deficit to defeat Central Arkansas 73-72 on Saturday.
Wentz hit a pair of free throws to pull Abilene Christian within 70-69 with 1:01 to play. After a Central Arkansas turnover, he made another pair of free throws to give the Wildcats their first lead of the second half, 71-70 with 21 seconds left. Tirrell Brown’s bucket gave the lead back to Central Arkansas with 3 seconds to play before Wentz made his game-winning shot.
Wentz scored 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including three 3-pointers. Michael Grant scored 17 points, and Julian Edmonson added 10 for Abilene Christian (7-11, 1-3 Southland).
Central Arkansas (4-12, 1-4 Southland) had its largest lead of the second half, 59-49 with 10:54 remaining. LaQuentin Miles scored 19 points and DeShone McClure added 13 to lead the Bears.
