ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Nolan Ryan says he’s been pretty good at retirement.
The Hall of Fame pitcher said Friday that he has been spending a lot more time at his ranch and with his grandkids, and that it’s been good to set his own schedule.
Ryan resigned three months ago as chief executive of the Texas Rangers and sold his ownership stake in the team.
He was back at Rangers Ballpark on Friday night as the featured speaker for the University of Texas-Arlington’s preseason baseball banquet.
Ryan acknowledged it was different feeling being at the stadium now. He spent nearly six years in the Rangers front office, a time when the team made its only two World Series appearances.
He says one of his disappointments is they didn’t win a World Series.
