PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Charlie Manuel has returned to the Philadelphia Phillies as a senior advisor to general manager Ruben Amaro Jr.
Manuel was offered a position the day he was fired. He accepted earlier this week and the team made the announcement Friday.
Manuel led the Phillies to the 2008 World Series title, five division championships and two NL pennants from 2005-13. His 780 victories are more than any manager in franchise history.
The 70-year-old Manuel will work with minor league hitters, scout at the major and minor levels and serve as a consultant for the baseball operations staff. Before becoming the team’s manager, Manuel , spent two years working for the Phillies as a special assistant to then-GM Ed Wade.
