KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Royals have agreed to one-year deals with first baseman Eric Hosmer, right-hander Luke Hochevar and utility man Emilio Bonifacio to avoid going to arbitration.
Hosmer, who made just $528,250 last season, received the biggest bump to $3.6 million with a $50,000 bonus if he makes his first All-Star team. He’s coming off a bounce-back year in which he hit .302 with 17 homers and 79 RBIs while playing in 159 games.
Hochevar will make $5.21 million while being eligible for up to $400,000 in incentives after he flourished in the bullpen last season. The former starter was 5-2 with a 1.92 ERA in 58 games. He’s made $4.56 million last year and will be a free agent after this season.
Bonifacio also can become a free agent after the season. The versatile fielder will earn $5.6 million after making $2.6 million last season.
