SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) — Alan Williams scored 12 points and pulled down 15 rebounds to lead UC Santa Barbara to a 64-51 victory over Long Beach State Thursday night.
Williams, who came into the game ranked third in the nation in points per game (24.3) and sixth in rebounds per game (11.1), has scored in double figures every game he’s played this season and now has seven double-doubles in 13 games.
UCSB (10-5, 1-1 Big West) opened the second half with a 24-7 run, making 10 of 16 field goals during that stretch and giving the Gauchos a 50-31 lead with 8:50 remaining. LBSU, however, responded with a 15-4 spurt of its own, pulling within eight, 54-46, with just over 4 minutes to play.
A Taran Brown dunk with 3:46 left extended the UCSB lead back into double digits and LBSU (5-12, 1-2) never threatened again.
Mike Caffey paced the 49ers with 18 points.
