LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Louisville coach Bobby Petrino has announced the hiring of Todd Grantham as defensive coordinator and safeties coach.

Grantham joins the Cardinals after four years as Georgia’s defensive coordinator. Before that, he spent 11 years in the NFL as an assistant, most recently as the Dallas Cowboys’ defensive line coach from 2008-09.

Grantham said at a Thursday morning news conference that Petrino “is a head coach that offensively is one of the best in the country at what he does. I just felt like it was a chance to win a title.”

Grantham’s brother, Tony, was also hired as Louisville’s inside linebackers coach and special teams coordinator. He had been the Naval Academy’s outside linebackers coach the past six years.
