LONDON (AP) — McLaren says Ron Dennis has been re-appointed as chief executive, tasked with reviving the Formula One team’s fortunes.
Dennis stepped aside from his involvement with the F1 side of the business in 2009 after 27 years as team principal, but stayed on as chief executive until 2012 before becoming McLaren chairman.
McLaren endured another miserable season in 2013, finishing fifth in the constructors’ championship, with Jenson Button ninth in the drivers’ standings, and Sergio Perez in 11th place.
In a statement on Thursday, Dennis, who remains McLaren chairman, says he has been mandated “to write an exciting new chapter in the story of McLaren, beginning by improving our on-track and off-track performance.”
The statement makes no mention of team principal Martin Whitmarsh.
