The Board of Clark County Commissioners had a work session Wednesday on an update of the county’s mining overlay map, which shows which areas where mining will be allowed.

No date was set for the matter to go to public hearing.

Instead, commissioners said they need additional information before they decide how to proceed.

Livingston Mountain residents, in particular, are concerned about increased truck traffic, dust, noise, and impacts to waterways and wells.

The county adopted a mining overlay map in 1994, but it has not been substantially changed, according to a 2013 report to the county planning commission. The state Department of Natural Resources drew up an inventory of mineral resources in 2005. A local Mineral Lands Task Force began looking at the issue in 2011. A new map and code language was developed before the county went back to the drawing board in 2012.
