NEWMARKET, England (AP) — After an illustrious unbeaten career on the track, champion racehorse Frankel is starting to make his mark off it.
Frankel, widely regarded as one of racing’s greatest horses, fathered his first foal on Saturday when 6-year-old Chrysanthemum gave birth to a bay colt at Coolmore Stud in Ireland.
The stud said the foal was “a handsome colt with a good head, a white blaze and great presence.”
Philip Mitchell, general manager of Frankel’s Juddmonte Farms owners in Newmarket, says on Wednesday, “from the reports that I have received, Frankel’s first foal is everything we could have hoped for.”
Frankel was retired to stud in October 2012 after winning all 14 of his races. He mated with 133 mares from February to June last year at 125,000 pounds ($200,000) a time.
