Fundraiser set in Battle Ground for Chief for a Day

The Columbian
Published: January 13, 2014, 4:00pm

Six-year-old Cole Merle will be sworn in as honorary sheriff at 5 p.m. today at the Mill Creek Pub in Battle Ground.

Merle was recently featured in The Columbian for holding toy drives for sick kids. In September 2011, he was diagnosed with Stage IV Wilm’s tumor, a rare kidney cancer. Police officers, including Clark County Sheriff Garry Lucas and Battle Ground Police Chief Bob Richardson, will serve customers today at the restaurant, 710 S.W. Ninth Ave., until 9 p.m., to raise money for this year’s Chief for a Day celebration.

The annual event offers a special day for children with life-threatening or chronic illnesses. Those interested in contributing can donate to Chief for a Day at any Riverview Community Bank.
