AUGSBURG, Germany (AP) — United States defender Michael Parkhurst has left Bundesliga club Augsburg.
Augsburg says that Parkhurst’s contract, which ran until June 2015, was terminated with immediate effect “by mutual consent.”
Parkhurst hasn’t played for Augsburg in the Bundesliga this season. The club says he didn’t travel to the team’s winter training camp on the Canary Islands so that he could hold talks with possible new clubs.
Augsburg general manager Stefan Reuter says Parkhurst wanted to “recommend himself for the American national team and a place at the World Cup in Brazil” by playing and the club agreed to let him go.
