Vancouver’s Frontier Middle School was briefly placed on lockdown this morning after a student brought what turned out to be a toy gun to school, according to the Evergreen school district.
Vancouver police were notified of the incident, which was dispatched as a suspicious circumstance at 9:36 a.m., and responded to the school, 7600 N.E. 166th Ave.
A staff member was told by a student that there was possibly a gun at school, Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp said.
Police responded and determined that the gun was plastic and not a real weapon, Kapp said.
Gail Spolar, spokeswoman for the school district, said the school was placed on a brief lockdown that has since been lifted.
Police will write an informational report on the incident, but Kapp said that any sort of disciplinary action will be taken by the school district.
“Obviously, when there’s a threat of a potential weapon, we’re going to take immediate action,” Spolar said. “We’re going to jump on it and take it seriously.”
Earlier this school year, sixth-grader Quincy Tuttle allegedly brought a handgun, 400 rounds of ammunition and several knives to Frontier. Tuttle was arrested after the Oct. 23 incident and faces charges of attempted murder and other weapons-related crimes.
