ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf is sitting out with a lower-body injury when Anaheim hosts the Detroit Red Wings.
The NHL-leading Ducks announced absence of their leading scorer after pregame warmups began Sunday night.
Getzlaf blocked a shot with his right foot during the Ducks’ victory in Phoenix on Saturday. Anaheim coach Bruce Boudreau says X-rays were negative, and Getzlaf is listed as day to day.
Getzlaf is having an outstanding season for the Ducks, ranking fourth in the NHL with 53 points heading into Sunday’s games. The playmaking center was selected for his second Canadian Olympic team earlier this month.
Anaheim had won 16 of its last 17 games to streak to the top of the NHL standings, opening an 11-point lead atop the Pacific Division.
