Texas State defeats Louisiana-Monroe 61-36

MONROE, La. (AP) — Joel Wright scored 14 points and had 10 rebounds as Texas State rolled to an easy 61-36 victory Saturday over Louisiana-Monroe.

Phil Hawkins made a 3-pointer to open the second half and gave Texas State (5-11, 1-2 Sun Belt) a 38-27 lead. The Bobcats then added an 11-5 run to stretch the lead to 49-32 with 9:18 remaining.

Louisiana-Monroe (4-7, 1-2) answered when Kyle Koszuta made two of three free throws at the 8:49 mark to make it 49-34. But the Warhawks did not score again until Milaun Brown’s jumper with 17 seconds to play to cap the scoring.

Wesley Davis scored 14 points and Kavin Gilder-Tilbury added 10 for Texas State.

Louisiana-Monroe scored just nine points on 3-of-23 shooting from the field in the second half. Tylor Ongwae made two 3-pointers while scoring 12 points to lead the Warhawks.
