NACOGDOCHES, Texas (AP) — Sam Houston’s Jabari Peters scored 18 points and Nicholls State could not compete in the second half losing 88-61 in a Southland Conference meeting on Saturday night.
Sam Houston (11-5, 3-1) led 42-31 at intermission while shooting 55 percent and making 16 free throws in 19 attempts. Nicholls State (6-7, 3-1) shot 57 percent in the first half but were limited to only two points from the penalty line, compounding a Bearkat first half advantage.
The Colonels’ first half field goal success quickly faded at the start of the second, hitting just 1 of 11 attempts from the floor. Sam Houston reeled-off a 20-3 run in the process in building a 62-34 lead with 12 minutes left.
Sam Houston finished shooting 58 percent from the field, thwarting any Colonel opportunity in mounting a comeback following their early second period shooting miscues.
Dantrell Thomas led Nicholls State scorers with 14 points.
