ADELBODEN, Switzerland (AP) — Ted Ligety and Marcel Hirscher trailed Thomas Fanara of France after the first run of a World Cup giant slalom on Saturday.
Fanara, wearing bib No. 1, took advantage of the best snow conditions on a warm day and timed 1 minute, 16.14 seconds, 0.69 faster than teammate Alexis Pinturault.
Ligety of the United States trailed Fanara by 0.89 in third. Austria’s Hirscher was fourth, with 0.90 to make up in the second run.
Ligety and Hirscher have combined to win all four GS races this season.
Overall World Cup leader Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway was 1.82 back in ninth.
Bode Miller of the U.S. skied out midway when he lost balance in the softening snow with temperatures at 6 C (43 F).
