HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) — Stephen Nwaukoni grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds and scored 13 points as Hofstra came back to defeat the College of Charleston 75-71 Saturday.
Down ten points, Hofstra (5-11, 1-1 Colonial Athletic Association) had a 19-9 run to tie the game at 58 with 8:53 to play. Nwaukoni made one of two free throws to give Hofstra its first lead of the second half, 66-65 with 1:17 remaining. Two free throws from Nwaukoni and one from Moussa Kone stretched Hofstra’s lead to 69-65.
Anthony Stitt’s 3-pointer pulled the College of Charleston (9-8, 1-1) within one. Hofstra closed on a 6-3 run to cap the scoring. Nwaukoni made three of four from the line and had a steal and defensive rebound during the span.
Charleston had a chance to tie with nine seconds left, but missed back-to-back 3-pointers by Joe Chealey and Stitt.
Nori Johnson scored 25 points to lead Charleston.
