JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) — Kirk Van Slyke scored 21 points and grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds as Arkansas State defeated South Alabama 72-60 on Saturday night.
Arkansas State (10-5, 3-1 Sun Belt Conference) has won five of its last six. South Alabama (6-11, 0-4) has not won on the road and has a six-game losing streak.
Van Slyke was 7 of 13 from the floor, and has scored in double-figures for eight straight games. Van Slyke’s jumper gave Arkansas State a 47-37 lead with 12:33 to play, and the Red Wolves led by double-digits the rest of the way.
Melvin Johnson III and Ed Townsel each scored 12 points for Arkansas State. Townsel also pulled in a career-high 10 rebounds.
Aakim Saintil led South Alabama with 10 points. Augustine Rubit and Ken Williams each added nine points for the Jaguars.
