Arkansas-Pine Bluff holds off Alabama A&M, 72-64

NORMAL, Ala. (AP) — Tevin Hammond scored 16 of Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s final 23 points, lifting the Golden Lions to a 72-64 win over Alabama A&M Saturday.

Hammond’s two free throws with 6:54 left gave the Golden Lions a 17-point lead, 64-47. Arkansas-Pine Bluff did not score for more than three minutes while the Bulldogs whittled the lead to 11, 64-53.

Rakia Battle hit a pair of 3-pointers in the final 24 seconds to pull the Bulldogs within six points, 70-64, with 10 seconds left. DeAndre McIntyre stroked a pair of free throws with no time left to create the final margin.

Hammond finished with a season-high 30 points, converting 15 of 18 shots from the free throw line, to lead Arkansas-Pine Bluff (4-10, 2-0 Southwestern). DaVon Haynes and Ghiavonni Robinson added 16 and 12 points, respectively, for the Golden Lions.

Nicholas West scored 14 points to lead Alabama A&M (5-8, 2-1).
