KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee freshman guard Robert Hubbs III will undergo season-ending surgery on his left shoulder.
Volunteers coach Cuonzo Martin announced Friday through a university release that Hubbs would have surgery within the next week. Martin had said Thursday that surgery was being considered for Hubbs.
Hubbs’ shoulder has been bothering him since his senior year at Dyer County High School in Newbern, Tenn. Hubbs wore a soft brace on the shoulder throughout this season, and he sat out Tennessee’s last two games.
Hubbs, who is 6-foot-6, was averaging 5.0 points, 1.5 rebounds and 18.3 minutes. He played in 12 games. A redshirt for Hubbs appears unlikely because he already has played in over 30 percent of his team’s scheduled games.
Tennessee (10-4, 1-0 SEC) hosts Texas A&M (10-4, 1-0) on Saturday.
