BOKSBURG, South Africa (AP) — A court in South Africa has postponed the rape and sexual assault case against former Grand Slam doubles champion Bob Hewitt until May. 9.
The 73-year-old Hewitt did not attend the hearing in Boksburg, east of Johannesburg, on Friday and has missed all three preliminary dates citing ill health.
The Australia-born former international tennis hall of famer is accused of two counts of rape and one count of indecent assault against underage girls he coached in the 1980s and 1990s. He denies the charges and has threatened to sue his accusers.
Two of the offenses are alleged to have occurred in Boksburg. The third allegedly took place at the Sun City casino resort in northern South Africa.
Prosecutors have applied to have the charges centralized and heard in the same court.
