NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (AP) — A.J. English scored 25 points and Iona topped Fairfield for the second time this season, 84-75 on Friday night.
Iona (7-7, 4-1 Metro Atlantic) led by as many as 14 in the second half, before Fairfield (3-13, 0-6) closed within 79-73 with 33 seconds remaining. But English responded with a dunk, and the Gaels made 3 of 4 free throws in the final 25 seconds to preserve the win.
Tre Bowman complimented English with 24 points and David Laury had 21. The Gaels shot 50 percent (11 of 22) from 3-point range, led by Bowman who hit 6 of his 8 attempts.
Maurice Barrow led Fairfield with 19 points while Sean Grennan added 16. Coleman Johnson and Justin Jenkins each had 12.
Iona defeated Fairfield 83-72 earlier this year in a contest at Fairfield, and has won seven of the last 11 in the series.
