BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) — Western Kentucky athletic director Todd Stewart says that he has promoted offensive coordinator Jeff Brohm to head football coach.

Brohm, 42, replaces Bobby Petrino, who left Thursday after one season for a second coaching stint at Louisville. Brohm will be introduced as WKU’s 19th coach at a Friday afternoon news conference.

A Louisville native who played quarterback for the Cardinals and was an assistant coach at the school under Petrino, Brohm takes over after building the Hilltoppers (8-4) into the Sun Belt Conference’s second-ranked offense (458.5 yards per game) in his first season as coordinator. Running back Antonio Andrews was named conference player of the year.

Twenty players including four quarterbacks have gone on to the NFL under Brohm, who has also coached at Florida Atlantic, Illinois and UAB.
