A Vancouver man was arrested Thursday afternoon after he allegedly carjacked a woman’s vehicle at a Maple Tree neighborhood business, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
The carjacking was reported at 12:24 p.m. at 11206 N.E. Fourth Plain Blvd., where a woman had left her 2007 Chevrolet HHR idling as she entered a business, according to Clark County Sheriff’s Sgt. Fred Neiman. A female passenger waited inside the vehicle.
As the woman walked toward the business, a man tried to engage her in conversation, Neiman said in a press release.
The woman, who deputies say did not know the man, continued past him and entered the business.
The man then reportedly climbed into the driver’s side of the vehicle, Neiman said, alarming the female passenger, who immediately got out.
No assault occurred, and no one was reported injured.
The man drove away, but Clark County sheriff’s Deputy Craig Marler spotted the vehicle traveling north on Interstate 205 a short time later and pulled it over near Northeast 63rd Street.
Grant Adam Kemper, 37, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree robbery. The Chevrolet was returned to its owner.
