Deadlines nearing for Washington hunting reports
OLYMPIA — Sportsmen who report their hunting activities for deer, elk, turkey and bear by Friday to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife have a chance to win one of nine special permits in 2014.
Those who meet the deadline will be included in a drawing for five deer permits and four elk permits in various areas of the state. The permits will be valid September through December.
To qualify for the drawing, hunters must submit a report for each bear, deer, elk or turkey tag they bought and for each special permit they received in 2013.
All hunters, successful or not, are required submit reports for those species by Jan. 31. Failure to meet the deadline can result in a $10 fine, payable before a hunter can buy a 2014 license.
Dave Ware, game manager, said if all hunters wait until the Jan. 31 deadline it creates problems for the agency.
Hunters can report by telephone at 877-945-3492 or online at https://fishhunt.dfw.wa.gov. Hunters should be prepared to give the game management unit they hunted and their individual WILD identification number, which is printed on license documents.
Oregon expands wildlife area parking permits
Parking permits are required now at six additional wildlife areas operated by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.
The six are the Jewell Meadows, Willow Creek, Coyote Springs, Irrigon, Power City and Elkhorn wildlife areas.
Daily parking permits cost $7 while annual permits are $22.
Permits were required previously at nine wildlife areas including Sauvie Island, west of Portland.
The permits must be displayed on a vehicle’s dashboard. A free permit is included in an annual Oregon hunting license or combination hunting and fishing license.
