NEW YORK (AP) — Ben Mockford was 8 of 14 from 3-point range with a career-high 30 points on Thursday night to lead St. Francis (NY) over LIU Brooklyn 78-64 in the Northeast Conference opener for both teams.
Jalen Canon added 19 points and 14 rebounds and Brent Jones had 12 assists for the Terriers (10-6) which had 26 offensive rebounds and held a 52-28 rebounding advantage overall.
St. Francis used an 8-0 run early in the first half to take the lead for good at 19-11. The Terriers led 45-35 at the break and built their largest lead at 73-53 on Sheldon Hagigal’s 3-pointer with 5:42 left in the game.
Landon Atterberry led LIU Brooklyn with 19 points. Gerrell Martin scored 18 and E.J. Reed added 11.
The Blackbirds (5-9) battled to within 32-30 after falling behind early, but never got closer the rest of the way.
