NEW YORK (AP) — Michelle Kwan will be honored in April by Figure Skating in Harlem for her contributions to the sport.

The five-time world champion, nine-time U.S. champ and double Olympic medalist has been a strong supporter of the club, now in its 17th year. She praises Figure Skating in Harlem “for combining sports and education and having the commitment to make a better life for the girls.”

Figure Skating in Harlem remains the only U.S. organization that combines the power of education with the grace and discipline of figure skating. Its mission is to transform the lives of underserved New York City girls.

Also expected to attend FSH’s gala on April 7 are Olympic champions Scott Hamilton, Evan Lysacek, Sarah Hughes, and Tara Lipinski.
