JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (AP) — Brian Williams scored 15 points and Jacksonville State erased a halftime deficit to beat SIU-Edwardsville 61-52 on Thursday Night.
D.J. Felder added 14 points and Jamal Hunter 11 for the Gamecocks who also blocked seven shots.
Jacksonville State (8-11, 2-2 Ohio Valley) trailed Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville (4-12, 1-2 OVC) by 3 points at the half after SIU-Edwardsville stormed back from a nine point deficit to go up 29-26 on a Donivine Stewart trey.
The Cougars maintained the lead through the first ten minutes of the second half until Jacksonville’s Felder hit four consecutive jump shots to put the Gamecocks up 46-43 at 7:33. SIU-Edwardsville never recovered, making only one basket and two free throws in a nine minute stretch leading into the final seconds of the game.
Stewart led Cougar scorers with 17 points. They shot only 36 percent from the field and were 7 of 14 from the line.
