SAN ANTONIO (AP) — The Arena Football League says it has seized control of its San Antonio franchise after its ownership group failed to meet its obligations.
Commissioner Jerry Kurz tells the San Antonio Express-News (http://bit.ly/1dj56Ab) that the league is seeking a new ownership group in the hope of keeping the San Antonio Talons in San Antonio.
The team was owned by a group led by A. David Lynd. The San Antonio real estate investor’s company manages more than 34,000 apartments. The Express-News says the ownership’s woes became so acute that team players had been threatened with eviction from units for which rent subsidies were promised.
Lynd has blamed his recent woes on a pending divorce.
Team attendance averaged less than 8,000 per game at the Alamodome over the past two seasons.
