CLINTON, S.C. (AP) — Keon Moore scored 16 points, while Tevin Prescott and Joab Jerome each added 10 to push Winthrop past Presbyterian 71-67 in a Big South Conference opener Wednesday night.
After giving up a 9-0 run and trailing at halftime, the Eagles (7-6, 1-0) pulled back ahead early in the second half as a Jerome layup and a Prescott dunk fueled an 8-0 run to make it 46-41.
Presbyterian (4-12, 0-1) pulled within three on a Reggie Dillard 3-pointer, but Winthrop countered with a 10-3 run capped by 3-pointers from Andre Smith and Moore to lead by 10 with 3:10 remaining.
Jordan Downing hit two straight 3-pointers to cut the Blue Hose deficit to two with 27 seconds left. Prescott answered with a layup and Moore sank two free throws.
Presbyterian shot 50 percent, but committed 15 turnovers. Downing led the Blue Hose with 20 points and Dillard had 14.
