PHOENIX (AP) — The Arizona Diamondbacks are opening spring training a week early, giving them time to prepare for their season-opening series against the Dodgers in Australia in late March.
The Diamondbacks announced Wednesday pitchers and catchers will report Feb. 6, position players Feb. 11. The team’s first full-squad workout will take place a day later.
Arizona is scheduled to play Los Angeles in Sydney on March 22-23. Opening day for the rest of the teams is March 30.
The Dodgers will report on Feb. 8, also taking advantage of the agreement between the Players’ Association and Major League Baseball that authorized the early camp opening.
For other teams, the voluntary reporting date for pitchers, catchers and injured players is Feb. 13, Feb. 18 for other players.
