PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Several people familiar with the situation tell The Associated Press that longtime Phillies broadcaster Chris Wheeler is out after four decades with the team, and Gary Matthews isn’t returning as color analyst
The people spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity Wednesday because the Phillies haven’t announced the moves. The team recently signed a new television contract with NBCUniversal and Comcast SportsNet that’s reportedly worth $2.5 billion over 25 years.
The decision to replace Wheeler and Matthews came from the network, according to multiple sources. Both announcers are expected to remain with the team in some capacity.
