Forward Frederic Piquionne will return to the Portland Timbers for the 2014 season.

The Timbers on Tuesday announced that Piquionne, 35, has signed with the team. Per Major League Soccer rules, terms of the deal were not announced.

In 2013, Piquionne scored seven goals and had six assists in 26 matches for the Timbers. Five of his goals came in Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup matches. He scored from a header late in the first game of the Western Conference finals at Real Salt Lake to bring the Timbers within two goals.

Prior to an ankle injury, Piquionne was a key contributor on offense. Between May 29 and Aug. 3, the 6-foot-2, 178-pounder had six goals and six assists. He missed nine MLS matches after suffering the injury on Aug. 3.

Piquionne played eight seasons in the top French league and three seasons in England with Portsmouth and West Ham United. Born in New Caledonia, Piquionne has represented France and Martinique in international matches.

The Timbers will open training camp later in January and play their first preseason match on Feb. 1 in Tucson, Ariz.
