Third-graders learn fine dining

Battle Ground — Third-graders at Captain Strong Primary School ate better than most adults last month when they learned etiquette skills while eating a four-course meal. Roxann Evenson’s third-grade class took part in the Sodexo Nutrition Services-sponsored “Fine Dining Experience,” which transformed the classroom on Dec. 17 into a simulated fine dining restaurant, complete with linens, flowers and music. Parents dressed in nice clothes to serve the students and guests from the community. The goal was to teach kids proper dining behaviors and other courtesies. The menu included carrot bisque with crème fraîche, rosemary-herbed pork loin and a fresh fruit salad with vanilla mascarpone.
