DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Jordan Parks, who had 14 points, scored six in the final 54 seconds to secure a 74-61 North Carolina Central victory over Hampton Tuesday night.
Dante Holmes had 15 points, Jay Copeland contributed 14 and Emanuel Chapman added 11 for North Carolina Central (8-4, 1-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference).
The game was tied at 31 at the half. The Eagles took a 42-39 lead at the 15:58 mark following a layup by Copeland and a 3-point jump shot by Chapman. Hampton (7-8, 2-1) closed to 66-61 on two Brian Darden free throws with 1:09 remaining. Parks answered with two dunks and two free throws to seal the victory.
Darden led Hampton with 20 points and Dwight Meikle added 14.
The Eagles made 49.1 percent of their field goals while limiting Hampton to just 17 of 63. The Eagles have been limiting opponents to 39.2 percent from the field.
