VAIL, Colo. (AP) — Authorities say the man who was killed in an avalanche near Vail, Colo., was the grandson of the resort town’s founder.
Eagle County Coroner Kara Bettis says 24-year-old Anthony Seibert was killed in Tuesday morning’s slide in the backcountry near Vail.
She says Seibert is the grandson of Peter Seibert. Along with Earl Eaton, he is widely credited with finding the terrain that would later become Vail Mountain.
Three others were injured in the avalanche and are expected to recover from their injuries. Their names weren’t released.
