LONDON (AP) — Three-time Olympic medalist Louis Smith is ending his self-imposed exile from gymnastics in a bid to compete at this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The 24-year-old Smith has not competed in a major competition since winning two medals for Britain at the 2012 London Olympics — a silver in the pommel horse and a bronze in the team event. He also won bronze in the pommel horse at the 2008 Beijing Games.

Smith says “I know what I’m still capable of when I’m in peak condition. I believe I can very much compete amongst the best in the world and challenge for medals.”

Since the London Olympics, Smith has appeared on a reality TV show in Britain and done some commentary work.

The Commonwealth Games begin July 23.
