SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — Jeremiah Hill scored 17 points to lead Savannah State past Maryland-Eastern Shore 66-42 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opener for both teams Monday night.
Terel Hall’s layup with 12:06 to play sparked a 20-2 run by Savannah State (3-12), opening up a 62-39 lead with just over 3 minutes remaining. Maryland-Eastern Shore was scoreless more than seven minutes of action during that stretch and scored just five points in the final 13 minutes.
UMES (2-11), which came into the game shooting 38 percent from the floor for the season, made just 12 of 54 field goals and 2 of 15 3-pointers. The Hawks’ 42 points were their lowest output of the season, more than 22 points below their season average.
Joshua Montgomery scored 11 points for the Tigers and Jyles Smith added 13 rebounds.
KyRee Jones paced UMES with 17 points. Hakeem Baxter added 11.
