NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (AP) — Iona shot a blistering 65 percent from the field with Tre Bowman responsible for 23 points as the Gaels clobbered Niagara 118-92 on Saturday.
Iona (6-6, 3-0 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) could hardly miss in the first half, shooting 75 percent from the field while making eight 3-pointers (8 of 12) and notching 21 assists. The Gaels took a commanding 62-35 lead into the locker room.
Iona held Niagara’s Antoine Mason_NCAA’s DIV I scoring leader with 29.2Ppg_to just 10 first half points, while Bowman logged 18 points for Iona in the first period. Mason was able to finish with 22 points for Niagara (4-11, 1-3 MAAC).
By the end of the game, Iona had set a new school record with 34 assists as they breezed to the buzzer leading by as much as 37 points at 7:28 in the second half.
