3. For the birds
Visitors can practice their bird watching skills at Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge as flocks of ducks, geese and swans stop by for the winter. There have been recent sightings of great blue herons, Tundra swans, Canadian geese and bald eagles along the refuge’s River “S” unit’s Auto Tour route. The Carty Unit’s Oaks to Wetlands trail offers several loops, though the northern most loop is closed until the end of February.
