Central Florida beats Temple 78-76

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Isaiah Sykes had 23 points and 15 rebounds as Central Florida earned its first American Athletic Conference win in a 78-76 victory over Temple Saturday.

Eugene McCroy and Kasey Wilson each added 18 points, and Calvin Newell made 3 of 4 free throws in the final 31.6 seconds for the Knights (9-4, 1-1). Newell sank both free throws with 16 seconds to play to give Central Florida a 78-74 lead.

Will Cummings had a career-high 31 points for Temple (5-7, 0-2), which dropped its second straight. Quenton Decosey and Anthony Lee added 14 and 12, respectively.

The Knights jumped out to a 20-6 lead, but Temple used a 19-4 run to take the lead at 25-24 with 7:40 left. The Owls went ahead 28-24 on a Cummings three-point play, but Central Florida managed go ahead 40-38 just before halftime on Wilson’s 3-pointer with 29 seconds to play.
