SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Randy Waldrum, who led Notre Dame women’s soccer team to national championships in 2004 and 2010, has resigned to become coach of the expansion Houston Dash of the National Women’s Soccer League.
The university announced Waldrum’s resignation on Friday, saying he will be introduced as coach of the Dash at a news conference Monday. Waldrum had been coach at Notre Dame for 15 seasons, compiling a 292-58-17 record and leading the Irish to eight College Cup appearances, including five appearances in the national championship game. Waldrum, a native of Irving, Texas, also was named coach of the year twice.
The university announced that assistant coaches Dawn Greathouse and Corey Holton will share oversight of the program until a new coach is hired.
