Ravens RB coach Montgomery won’t return in 2014

OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) — Baltimore Ravens running backs coach Wilbert Montgomery won’t be back in 2014.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh says Montgomery “has decided to pursue other coaching and life opportunities.”

Montgomery joined the Ravens in 2008. Running back Ray Rice reached the Pro Bowl three times under Montgomery’s guidance, but this season Rice rushed for only 660 yards — the fewest since his rookie year.

Baltimore’s running game was inconsistent and often unproductive in 2013, but Harbaugh had nothing negative to say about Montgomery, who’s coached for 17 seasons.

Harbaugh says, “Wilbert brought a passion to the Ravens that helped our team, and the individuals on it, reach tremendous heights.”
