Sypkens leads UC Davis to 93-69 win over Simpson

DAVIS, Calif. (AP) — Ryan Sypkens recorded career-highs by scoring 30 points and netting 10 3-pointers as UC Davis beat Simpson 93-69 Thursday night.

Sypkens passed Wilbert Hooker (Fresno State, 1989-92) to move into sixth place in Big West Conference history with 264 3-point baskets in his career. Sypkens came into the game ranked seventh nationally among active players in career 3-pointers.

UC Davis (5-10) used an 11-2 run to take a 23-14 lead with 9:44 left in the first half and scored 11 of the last 13 points to go into the break leading 45-26.

Georgi Funtarov’s layup with 2:28 remaining gave the Aggies the biggest lead of the game, 92-62.

Cory Hawkins finished with 19 points and seven assists for UCD, which shot 53.3 percent and had 23 assists on 32 field goals. Funtarov added 10 points, nine rebounds and five assists.

Jonnie Washburn led Simpson (1-16) with 12 points.
