Olympians Martin, Orpik readying for Sochi

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Paul Martin isn’t going to let an injury stand in the way of his spot on the U.S. Olympic hockey team this time.

The Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman says he expects to return from a broken leg sometime this month and hopes to get “8-10 games” in before joining his teammates in Russia.

Martin was picked for the U.S. squad before the 2010 Vancouver Games but was forced to sit out because of a broken forearm that didn’t heal properly.

Martin will be joined in Sochi by teammate Brooks Orpik, who appears to be fully recovered from a concussion that forced him to miss three weeks last month.

Orpik helped the Americans to a silver medal in Vancouver. He says he wouldn’t be surprised to be paired with Martin in the Olympics.
