ATLANTA (AP) — R.J. Hunter scored 25 and Ryan Harrow added 20 as Georgia State held off Troy on Thursday night, 81-72.
Harrow added seven assists for Georgia State (8-6, 1-0 Sun Belt), while Curtis Washington had 10 points in support.
Troy (5-8, 0-1) was led by Hunter Williams with 18. Kevin Thomas added 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Antoine Myers chipped in with 14 points and eight boards.
Georgia State raced out to a 44-31 lead at halftime as it scored the last seven points before the break, including Hunter hitting three free throws after being fouled on a 3-point shot with 1 second remaining in the half.
Even though Troy shot 50 percent (9 of 18) from beyond the arc, and out-rebounded Georgia State 36-22, it was never really able to cut much into the deficit in the second half.
